After two successful HasLab campaigns for The Vintage Collection, Hasbro launched the first Black Series HasLab in 2021, giving original trilogy fans the chance to add the legendary Rancor to their 6” scale collection.

To support the campaign, I was responsible for painting the Rancor deco model which featured an impressive 900 deco ops. I collaborated closely with Design and digital model artists to ensure colors aligned across both physical and digital assets.

Despite fan excitement, the campaign fell short of it 9,000-backer goal and the Rancor project did not move into production.

“The towering hulk of muscle who greeted Luke Skywalker in the shadowy pit beneath Jabba the Hutt’s throne room is poised to make a comeback.”

Behind The Workbench:

Having previously painted the Rancor model for Hasbro’s San Diego Comic Con diorama in 2019, our team was excited to bring the iconic creature to life once again as a fan-funded HasLab. I referenced the color scheme and weathering effects from the SDCC model to guide the deco of the HasLab version.
